Police Letter to SUN - "We will not be involved in any way"
This letter from Swanage Police Inspector Angie Downer was received
by SUN Group just before Christmas '98. It is self-explanatory and the
last sentence unequivocally dissociates the police from our dispute with
the National Trust.
Why, then, have police officers
continued to harass nudists?
Especially since, during a change of command at Swanage when
Inspector Nick Maton was in charge, police harassment virtually ceased
and our relationship with the police improved a hundredfold. However,
after Inspector Maton was promoted and moved to a senior management post
at County Headquarters, local command reverted to Inspector Downer and
the harassment of nudists and police toadying to the National Trust
