June 1999 Action Weekend
The turnout for this protest weekend
(5th & 6th June) was very
disappointing, to say the least but a special mention must go to John Browne,
who came all the way down from Preston to support Board members and a very few
local members.
The weather wasn’t kind to us on the Saturday;
nevertheless, our information point - marked by a new and magnificent banner
hand made by Board member Jan Welsh - did
brisk business, explaining and cajoling.
Sunday, despite adverse forecasts, turned out to be a
glorious day, and the information point was again busy. Sadly, on neither day
were enough members present to beat the bounds, but we do not regard the weekend
as a failure. We proved we can do it, and we’re going to do a mini version on
the morning of August 29th. We hope for a better turnout so that we can beat the
bounds before settling down to the Beach Party in the afternoon. Meet on the
landward side of the broadleaf woodland on FP6 from 9.30am. onwards. Beating the
bounds will begin - numbers permitting - around 12 noon, in order to work up a
thirst for the party, which will start as soon as there are enough members
present to drink a toast to one another! See you there!
